The North Western motorway effectively cuts Te Atatu Peninsula off from the main land and, with only one road in and out, the area has an almost island-like feel.
You’ll find Te Atatu Peninsula at the western extremity of the Waitematā Harbour. It has a supermarket, library, community hall, police station and numerous eateries. Make sure to visit the monthly Artisan and Handmade Market on the library veranda and in the Community Centre foyer.
Schools include Peninsula Primary School, Matipo Primary School, Rutherford Primary School (named after Ernest Rutherford, the kiwi scientist recognised for having split the atom), Te Atatu Intermediate School and Rutherford College
